To complete a man

Rat Rod is a style of hot rod or custom car that, in most cases, imitates (or exaggerates) the early hot rods of the 1940s, 1950s, and early-1960s. The style is not to be confused with the somewhat closely related “traditional” hot rod, which is an accurate re-creation or period-correct restoration of a hot rod from the same era. Most rat rods appear “unfinished”, regardless of their status, as only the vehicle’s bare essentials are driven. BMW Carbon E7, Carbon Motors Corporation with BMW Engine

Posted by on Feb.11, 2012, under Eco cars, News Comments Off on BMW Carbon E7, Carbon Motors Corporation with BMW Engine

Carbon Motors’ E7 is a cop car headed for the market in 2013 (assuming a $300 million government loan comes through). And it’s got a BMW turbo diesel under its high-tech hood.

Is that a cop in my rearview mirror? Why is it coming up so darned fast? The jig’s up this time, because I’ve been snared by a police-issue Carbon Motors E7, with turbo BMW power.

The Carbon Motors car isn’t on the road yet, though some prototypes with the BMW engine have been built. Carbon Motors announced a deal with BMW Group for 240,000 245-horsepower next-generation BMW diesels this week, but the deal will only happen if Carbon snares the $310 million Department of Energy (DOE) loan it asked for last August. It hopes to finalize that loan in six months, but there are no guarantee.

Carbon is attempting to sweeten the deal for the DOE by agreeing to built the E7 in hard-hit Connersville, Ind., occupying a 1.8 million square-foot plant vacated (at great emotional cost locally) by auto supplier Visteon in 2007. The company is promising 1,550 jobs, plus thousands more indirectly.

It may seem surprising that BMW would sign what could be a vaporware deal, but Ian Robertson, a high-ranking member of BMW’s board of management, was there at Carbon Motors’ press conference.

The E7 would likely be the first purpose-built police car in the U.S., and also probably the first diesel cop car here (though they’re common in Europe, where BMWs, Volkswagens and even Jaguar diesels are pressed into service).

No price has been announced, but Carbon did make its spec sheet available. The car will have a zero to 60 time of 6.5 seconds, complete the quarter mile in 14.5 seconds, and reach 150 mph. Today’s Ford Crown Victorias (with the police interceptor package) come fairly stripped, but Carbon will outfit its cars with integrated shotgun mounts, automatic license plate recognition, siren, rear cage surveillance and special fast-exit police seats.

Stacy Stephens is a former Dallas cop and also co-founder of Carbon Motors, which was launched back in 2003. The loan process, he said, is “moving extremely quickly.” But many other contenders want a share of that DOE largesse as well. So, only time will tell.

Toyota New Hybrid Cars For 2012

Posted by on Jan.10, 2012, under Hybrids Comments Off on Toyota New Hybrid Cars For 2012

Hybrid cars have been and continue to be a hot topic among the auto industry and for good reason.
Toyota New Hybrid Cars For 2012
They aren’t as harmful to the environment as normal gas guzzlers, and they get a much higher mile to every gallon. The main issue consumers had with hybrid models is that they didn’t have a large selection of cars to choose from.

Toyota is changing all that with six new Hybrid model cars planned by 2012. Check out what our predictions for the models that they will be choosing.

The Toyota Highlander is a favorite ride of many people, so when they came out with the Highlander Hybrid model a few years ago it got many people excited. Well, now they are creating a hybrid model of one its top selling SUV, the Rav4. By 2012 we will see an all electric version of the Rav4 that competes with the Ford Escape Hybrid and hopefully gives the 30 mpg the Escape currently gets a run for its money. Toyota developed this car with Tesla so perhaps it will have some of the same functionality as the Prius.

Toyota Sienna Hybridis what the minivan market has been looking for years to find and now Toyota delivers. The only question is: Will the Sienna come before the Honda Odyssey Hybrid, which is supposedly being released within the next few years? The family van market is a great niche to control and by the time the Sienna Hybrid is released, people will be extremely happy to see it.The Toyota Yaris is currently being developed for the Japanese market, so bringing it overseas to the United States is not a far stretch. The Yaris was a top seller because people are starting to care more about the gas mileage their car gets, rather than how much horsepower it has and what it looks like. Many people are already calling the Yaris the “Prius Jr.” which is a great car to be associated with.

A Toyota Corolla Hybrid just makes sense to us. In a market where hybrids aren’t yet mainstream as many believe they should be, creating a Toyota Corolla Hybrid can be just what is needed to give hybrids that push into the forefront of car purchases. Creating a Corolla hybrid will put gas-electric technology directly in the heart of Toyota’s brand.

The last two hybrids announced are Lexus Hybrids which makes picking them a little more difficult. Currently they already have four Lexus hybrid models on the market and the CT200h should be coming to the US market by 2011. If it does that is one model taken care of and the other might be a sporty fast vehicle that complements the CT200h./fc-de.org
